NDSG 2016 Pre-conference Institute
Instituto NDSG 2016 Pre-conferencia Anual
Once again NDSG will be offering a Pre-Conference Institute. This unique cultural and language art experience will broaden your experience of the conference and enrich your time in South Texas.
Participation is an optional choice for folks able to arrive in south Texas a day early, by Wednesday evening.
The Institute will be framed around a bilingual, multicultural art experience to be held at the historic Hidalgo Pumphouse, in the shadow of the border Wall. Included is a tour of the Pumphouse telling the unique history of the Rio Grande Valley's development from a semi-arid region to a green and fertile valley. Part of the day will be conducted solely in Spanish with English speaking participants being teamed up with Spanish speakers from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The experience combines the talents of local artists and NDSG'ers and will be led by a South Texas arts educator. We anticipate that Institute participants' experience, as well as their creative output, along with work of local artists to be featured at the Thursday evening opening event and continue throughout the rest of the conference. Folks interested in signing up for the Pre-Conference Institute will be able to register for the Institute as part of the registration process. You will need to make travel arrangements getting you into McAllen Airport on Wednesday. You will be picked up there.
